Helen Reddy is returning to the stage this week to sing in front of an audience once again! She comes out of her ten year retirement to perform 2 concerts in California. Having a multitude of chart toppers in her illustrious career, most would be surprised to hear that the greatest hits won’t be on the agenda. Reddy plans to recite her mega hit “I Am Woman” rather than sing it stating that:
‘Sometimes the words get lost in a song, and I think the words are very important. So I am reciting ‘I Am Woman.’
So important in fact that those same lyrics were one of the main factors in the
Queen of 70′s Pop’s decision to retire. Once someone pointed out she was in the school system’s American History text book under feminism with those lyrics, Reddy declared:
‘Well, I’m part of history now. And how do I top that? I can’t top that.’
Watch below as the now 70 yr old Reddy talks about her comeback and how she plans to sing songs she wants to perform. (Dark glasses are due to recent cataracts operation)
