Clint Eastwood Remakes A Star is Born with Beyoncé. Really. Another Remake for Hollywood?

So most everyone in Hollywood knows now that Clint Eastwood is remaking “A Star is Born” and that Beyoncé is the rumoured lead, what we don’t know is why he would base his version on the singer/songwriter version with Kristofferson and Streisand that was, for lack of a better word, god awful! (Sorry Babs, it wasn’t you as much as him!)

Warner has had this project in the making for years, this will be the fourth installment in the fading star meets bright young thing who surpasses them in the stardom department, therefore wreaking havoc on their romantic entanglement. I should mention, as far as Clint Eastwood is concerned, I have nothing but respect for his film projects thus far (I am speaking of course about his producing/directing credits, not so much his 70′s and 80′s acting gigs, lest we all forget “Every Which Way but Loose“  – whatever happened to Clyde the orangutan anyways?)! I am so deathly sick of remakes, especially a remake of a remake…of a remake?

So, Eastwood says he wants to model his film on the Streisand version which was itself an updated remake of the aging actor/young starlet storyline, putting an aging rockstar/up and coming singer spin on things. The original “A Star is Born”  starred Janet Gaynor and Fredric March (1937), then came the the remake of the same name (1954) starring Judy Garland and James Mason, (all four actors from the first two films were nominated for Academy Awards) then came another remake with the same name (yes that makes three and counting) starring Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson (1976), which I clearly am not too fond of, as an interesting aside here’s what Kristofferson has been quoted as saying about working with Babs:

“Filming with Streisand is an experience which may have cured me of the movies.”

But I digress, back to Clint’s version. Though production was supposed to have begun on the film, there have been mild setbacks such as Beyonce’s pregnancy, and oh yes, not having a male lead! Rumours have swirled that Russell Crowe, Will Smith and Leonardo DiCaprio have all passed.  The latest buzz is that Tom Cruise has been approached. Makes sense, since it’s a musical and Tom recently completed Rock of Ages in which he portrays aging rocker Stacee Jaxx (release date June 2012), so if Cruise is going to be the new musical it boy, what’s next? A remake of The Sound of Music perhaps? where we can see Cruise’s  profiled mug close-up while he warbles through a forgettable duet in a poorly lit gazebo (where’s Bill Lee when you need him). This in no way is a slam on the original 1965 version of The Sound of Music, as it is of course perfection, just a little too many remakes for my taste going on in the movies right now (agree or disagree in the comments below).

Regardless of my opinion on remakes, and my disappointment on modelling anything after a film starring Kris Kristofferson, I will watch this new  “A Star is Born” musical, as will many. Clint Eastwood has a way of making real and honest films, and he is no stranger to musicals, he himself has sung more in film and soundtracks than most know. Here’s an interesting little link to a site honouring those soundbites.

HardlyHedda is following this story closely and will report when the male lead is confirmed.

Did Goldie Hawn Leak the Scoop that Kate Hudson and Matthew Bellamy are Already Man and Wife?

Are they or aren’t they? It seems Mumsy may have let the ‘Kat’ out of the bag on the fact that engaged couple Kate Hudson and her hunky British fiance Muse frontman Matt Bellamy may infact already have secretly wed! In a recent interview, Hudson`s mother, Goldie Hawn said:

”My kids are fantastic with their children, they have an amazing parental ethic and I’m very proud of them for that. When my daughter Kate married an English rock star it didn’t worry  me; all that matters is that the relationship is a good one. What  people do is not necessarily who they are.”

OOPS, we know Goldie would not use the “married” word lightly, given the fact that she has been answering fans, reporters and let’s face it even complete strangers off the street as to why her and beau Kurt Russell have never married in their 29 yr relationship. Soooo pretty sure she knows the difference between fiance and husband….

The couple announced their engagement in April 2011, while just a few months later came little Bingham Hawn Bellamy into the world, a son for Kate and Matt. There has been no word on a wedding mentioned publicly since then, nor has there been any comment about this story since it has wound its way down the gossip stream.

If they managed to wed in total privacy and secretly from the press, all the power to them! In the meantime here is Matt doing what he does best (besides making adorable babies and possibly partaking in secret nuptials); Rock Video for Uprising by Muse
